Rules for Question Editing

This article explains how to edit test questions while keeping their connection to the question pool. It clarifies the difference between editing questions directly in the test and updating them through the question pool, as well as how each method affects future test attempts.

Manually created tests – Import questions from pools

When creating tests, you can import questions from question pools. If necessary, you can later edit the test questions.

1. There are two ways to edit questions:
   1. Edit the questions in the pool and propagate the changes to the test.
   2. Edit the questions in the test and propagate the changes to the pool as well.

Step-by-step instructions for both editing methods are below.

New candidates will get a new version of the questions, while users who have already attempted the test will see the old version in their report.

Editing questions directly in the test

1. Open the desired test.
2. Navigate to the Questions tab.
3. Click the Edit questions button and confirm that you want to archive the current test version and generate a new one.
   
4. Click the pencil icon next to the question you want to edit.
5. Make your changes and choose Save as new or Update existing.
   • If you choose Save as new, the edited question will become a standalone question, losing its connection to the question pool, and changes will be visible only in that test.
     The changes are applied immediately to the new test version, but the question in the question pool and in other tests where it is used remains the same as before.
   • If you choose Update existing, the system will change the question in this test, but the question will also be updated in the question pool. Note that in other tests where the old question was used, these changes will not be automatically visible.

Editing questions through the question pool

Applying question changes to a specific test

To apply the question change in a specific test, you must generate a new test version:

1. 1. Click the three dots in the Actions column for the test version.
   2. Select Generate updated version.
   3. Review the question using:
      • Preview question.
      • Compare question changes.
   4. After confirming the changes, click Create to generate a new test version.

The previous test version will be archived, and the new test version will be assigned to all new test attempts.

Changing the order of questions in a test

To change the order of questions in a test, click the question number and select the position where you want the question to appear.

Generated tests

When creating tests, you can also generate them using a test generator. If changes are needed later, questions must be edited directly in the question pool.

The process differs depending on whether the test has an unlimited or limited number of test versions defined. After you have made changes in the pool:

• If there is a limited number of versions, you must manually generate new test versions, so that candidates don’t receive a test version with inactive questions. Versions cannot update themselves automatically, since you defined an exact number of versions for the test.
• If you allow an unlimited number of test versions, candidates will receive a new version when they start the test, even if an outdated one was previously assigned. In this case, you don’t need to manually generate new versions — the updated version will be used for all future test attempts.

Candidates who have already attempted the test will continue to see the original (old) version of the question in their reports.
